Entry procedures to access NFFA-Trieste facilities in phase 3 of the COVID-19 pandemic

Actions taken to prevent the risk of SARS-COV-2 infection in the workplace and to help counter the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic

6th December 2020

The Italian Prime Ministerial Decree of November 3, 2020, in order to contain and combat the covid-19 emergency, divides the Italian territory into three areas, corresponding to as many risk scenarios, for which specific restrictive measures are envisaged.

To date, the NFFA-Trieste facility falls within the yellow area, where it is allowed to move  from 5am to 10pm without the need to justify the move.
Transfers from 10pm to 5am are allowed only for work needs, health reasons or proven situations of need, by filling in the self certification.

In compliance with the current Government rules, external users from:

  • Italy
  • Republic of San Marino and Vatican City State

are granted access to our site to perform experiments approved by the NFFA-Trieste review panels.

Users from other countries/territories may not be granted access until further notice, or may be subject to specific rules (such as at least 14 days of isolation upon entering Italy), depending on the prevention measures appilied for each particular country or territory.

The beamtime of foreign users will be scheduled keeping in mind travel restrictions.
Remote experiments with sample mail-in are still encouraged, whenever possible.

Users authorized to access NFFA-Trieste facilities are obliged to read the Entry Procedures for Reopening the Structures of the CNR-IOM Headquarters in Trieste carefully and comply with the provisions.

Useful information and documents can be found on Elettra COVID prevention and safety webpage.

  • PRIOR to the scheduled access, users are required to complete and sign CNR-IOM declaration form, and send it by email to with in CC.

  • Upon their access to Elettra, users will be also required to fill in a ELETTRA declaration form related to COVID-19 containment measures: please read it carefully before planning your trip to Trieste, in order to be sure you will be allowed to enter. Note that, if you come from or transit through certain Countries, access restrictions may apply or proof of a negative swab may be requested.
